What are the best socks to run in? Here’s something to think about. If you were asked to perform an activity with your hands such as, let see, drawing, signing your name or throwing a baseball, would you perform better with gloves on or with mittens? It’s pretty safe to say that most, if not all, would agree wearing the gloves would allow your hands to function freely by giving the fingers freedom to move individually. The same holds true for the foot. When we stick our feet into socks that are tight (because most people in our society have developed a feel for tight fitting socks) our toes lose their ability to function individually. Our toes each have their own tendons and muscles that make the foot, arch, and ankle stronger by contracting. If the toes are forced into tight fitting socks, this important function is lost making the foot less efficient and ultimately weaker.
So there is something to say about wearing those funny looking “toe socks” you may have seen people sporting. In fact, my advice to all runners would be to ditch those tight fitting running socks and put on some toe socks.
I’ve pretty much tried them all, and without a doubt Injinji makes the best. They fit perfectly and last the longest in my experience. If you haven’t tried them, I suggest you do. They’re easier to put on then you would think. Sometimes the pinky toe can get hung up, but you’ll develop a feel for putting them on quickly.
