Below is a list of my favorite gear for running. Obviously everyone has different taste in regards to colors and styles, but my goal of sharing what I use, is to help others find out what is available. By others sharing what they wear is how I have found a lot of my gear. The running community is a large network and as we all share our likes, we can each find new products so please share your comments below. Also, each item can be clicked to find a place of availability. I do encourage you to support your local specialty running shoe stores as they spend a lot of time finding the BEST products and can help with your decisions!
SHOES
(click to find out where to buy)

My Favorite shoe for racing half marathons and marathons.

Do the majority of my runs in these shoes.

Love going fast in these. Great for a distance race due to the cushion.

Hands down the best shoe for a minimalist runner in the snow. I have done several runs now in the snow and feet are completely DRY! Traction is also OUTSTANDING!

SOCKS

These are very thin and light and work great in FiveFingers. I typically don’t run in socks (in fact very rarely!) but they are nice in the winter with the VFF Lontras.
ACCESSORIES

The 610 has the vibration option for alerts which is very nice for alerts when listening to headphones. This is my primary heart rate monitor and it vibrates to alert me when I’m out of my zones. Also small enough to wear as a “daily” watch. Worth the extra money for a GPS watch.

Excellent reflective vest for running. Not hot. Easy to put on and stays in place without twisting around. Adjustable.

Hey! So i bought vibrams a few weeks ago, and i made the big mistake of running 3 miles in them the first time wearing them. the right outer edge of my right foot has been hurting for over 2 weeks now. I can run, but i’ve been using regular running shoes until the pain goes away. once the pain leaves, how quickly can i start building milage with the vibrams again? i have a half marathon end of Oct i’d like to use them for it.. but may not be able to. thanks for your help!
Emily,
It me be cutting it close to transition to a 13.1 mile distance by October. It all depends on your previous form and mileage prior to transitioning to FiveFingers. For example if you follow the outline from my interactive text as well as the Vibram FiveFingers running brochure, I recommend doing no more then 10% of your current mileage for any given run. So, if you go out for a 3 mile run, you will run 0.3 miles which depending on your pace could only be 2 to 4 minutes. Then put your traditional running shoes on and finish your run. It’s always best to run the first part of your run in your minimalist shoes because you are more fresh and stronger. If you do this at the end of your run, you will be tired and your form will suffer.
You can add 10% each week to two weeks to your transition amount. So it’s typical to take about 6 weeks to work up to 3 miles. Be patient. This is a huge change depending on your previous running form and foot strike pattern. I would encourage you to see my text for the iPad which is only $1.99 and goes over form with video.
Good luck!!
