If you visit for a health check-up, the specialist will inform you and add the procedure under your health insurance. In this way, the hospital environment adopts healthcare programs to store and bring up your medical records for later uses. A patient financial specialist will also tell you what preparation you need for diagnostic testing. It is their job to relay information regarding your test results or any medical behavior to the professionals involved in your care.

The specialist must communicate with the representatives of your insurance agency and bill you. They oversee scheduling dates for the health test by checking the patient and the medical professionals’ availability. The least qualification you need to become a patient financial specialist is to have a high school diploma. Suppose you have a degree of some sort in business and healthcare administration; that is a plus point for you. The more training you have in the field, the more chances you have of acquiring a job that pays well. It is the only field in the healthcare administration department that does not involve you getting into clinical contact with the patient.

Program Director

The job of a program director is to oversee all the programs in their department or organization. A program director has researched and then developed a plan to promote their organization, so it gains success. They make sure that all the staff members are well-trained enough to meet the program’s desired output. If not, then they must take it upon themselves to hire staff who will work hard to bring success to the program. Not everyone can be a program director. It requires the person to be qualified by having a bachelor’s degree in a field such as human resources, accounting, and business management. They should also have skills like having a strategic mindset, have problem-solving skills, and must demonstrate leadership skills.

Admin Manager


An Administrative Manager or Admin Manager is at the heart of specializations of healthcare administration. Their job is to oversee the work of other administrative and clerical staff. They also have these duties themselves if they are not happy with the outcome of their team. They create reports, manage payroll, organize schedules, and manage other tasks. One of the most critical roles for the admin manager is to have high communication and coordination with the other staff. The qualifications to become an admin manager is to have a high school diploma and an associate degree in office administration. They must have good leadership skills and should be highly well-organized.

Practice Manager

A practice manager is an administrator who runs a doctor’s office, medical clinic, or hospital department. Their main job is staffing and scheduling, overseeing the security procedures that look after the patients’ private information. They must manage the revenue cycle and watch the non-clinical staff like secretaries, receptionists, medical billers, and improve the work’s efficiency. They can also order the tasks of non-clinical staff if they are short-staffed or something. 

A practice manager’s qualifications depend on the program in which they get enrolled. Some programs might even take a medical office staffer who has years of experience in his field and make him/her a practice manager. However, this is done mostly by small programs. In contrast, more effective programs require managers to have a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and Business.

The demand for a practice manager has not been much in the past years but will surely go up in the coming years. The manager must have good skills, or else he will not be a good manager. A right level of communication with patients, insurance company representatives, and medical staff is a must. Resolving conflicts between staff and employees and multitasking are more skills that the manager should have. They should be able to manage employees of personality or background.

Most of the types of specializations mentioned above are not in demand, but analysis has shown a rise in healthcare. As disciplines go, a Psychiatrist is the most sought out one and has the highest pay attributed to it. All specializations need to have specific qualifications that one should meet before any program tries to hire you for the job.
